Young Reds win at Ossett Albion

Another trip to Yorkshire and some of the county branch supporters saw the Development Squad come away with another three points. Goals from Jean Biansumba, Mike Taylor and Jon Poizer gave them a 3-0 win at Ossett Albion.

The early exchanges were high paced but few chances were created as both sides sought to earn the right to play on a pitch that whilst firm and flat was heavily sanded. It wasn’t until the twelfth minute that either side had a shot, the home side pouncing on a defensive lapse but shoot wide. The first save of the game came a minute later when a Poizer free kick was bent round the wall but turned out for a corner by Jamie Abbott in the home goal.

It was much the same for most of the first half as both sides created half chances without finding the killer touch. That was punctuated by a move down the right wing on 28 minutes which saw a Jason Fowles cross reach Biansumba by the far post and he headed back across goal and into the net. Abbott saved again from Pozer five minutes later and after another Fowles and Biansumba exchange just before half time.




The half time break saw the home side given the more vociferous words of encouragement and started the second half brightly. That was until the 49th minute; Ben Seol, who had come on at the break for Joe Power was fouled close to the left corner of the penalty area. Taylor stepped up to take the free kick and lashed it past Abbott to double the lead. Manager Chuks says his cry of goal as the ball was struck was the decisive factor in steering it away from the keeper.

Ossett Albion continued to battle and had half chances including one ball across the box which begged a finishing touch it didn’t get, but playing for the most part with just one man up front did little to test the home defence. Indeed FC, despite dominating possession were having plenty of shots but not hitting the target.

FC made it 3-0 though in the 71st minute, a corner was bouncing around the home penalty area and two or three players attempted shots, one of which looked as if it might have crossed the line but a well placed assistant referee was unmoved. Finally Poizer fired home from the edge of the box. The visitors continued to press but without success, a Poizer cross was deflected for a corner but in truth was only just over the cross bar.

Ossett were denied a consolation goal ten minutes from time when a cross headed goalwards was turned over by Chris Taylor and Justin Johnson hit the post as the game drew to a close.
