King's Lynn game hosts A Woman's Place is at the Match

Saturday’s home game v King’s Lynn Town sees our annual event celebrating women’s football, "A Woman’s Place is at the Match". To mark the occasion, the match programme has interviews galore with women across various roles in football.

We have a chat with referee Elizabeth ’Jane’ Simms, who had a cracking game when we played Ilkeston the other week. Jane tells us about how she got into reffing and her thoughts on the state of the women’s game in this country. Jane also lets us in on a few secrets regarding referees’ pre-game preparation. We also speak to FC United board member and women’s team secretary Kate Ramsey about the events surrounding International Women’s Day and what the club is doing.

A highlight of our "A Woman’s Place is at the Match" activities will be a special panel discussion and Q+A session at the Bury Social Club from 2pm. Special guests include:

The aforementioned Jane Simms, women’s FIFA assistant referee who recently officiated at one of our matches at Gigg Lane, Niamh O’Mahoney, journalist, football fan and part-owner of Cork City FC and Shelley Alexander, editorial lead for Women in Sport at the BBC, member of the FA Inclusion Advisory Board and co-founder of Women in Football.

Continuing the "A Woman’s Place..." theme, the match programme also has an update on our women’s team and some great pictures from our various photographers. We also have an interview with FC United’s finance manager Christine Cottrell about her role at the club and we check up on her son Jake, to see how he is doing at Chorley. Volunteer Chantal Adams takes the Stoppage Time questions and proves to be wise beyond her years. Plus we have the usual Meet the Owners, away team section, match reports, stats and pics.

With the Megacabin expecting to be busy with some interesting items on sale and the ’Pound for the Grounders’ selling tickets, you should get there early on Saturday as we expect the forecourt at Gigg Lane to be buzzing from 1pm.

On the field at 3pm the reds will be going for a seventh win in a row. With games in hand on the teams above and confidence high in the squad, an exciting afternoon is in prospect. Get yourself to that football ground!
