Food collection for Mustard Tree at Ashton game on Monday

Food collection for Mustard Tree at Ashton game on MondayFC United has joined forces with local charity Mustard Tree to hold a food collection before the Ashton game this coming bank holiday Monday.

As demand for emergency food provision has increased greatly over recent months, the Mustard Tree Food Bank Store needs replenishing to avoid becoming seriously depleted. Last year FC fans came to the rescue with a bumper collection which filled a Mustard Tree van with much-needed emergency provision of food essentials and we’re hoping to do the same again this year.

Mustard Tree, with whom FC United has worked in partnership for many years, is appealing for supporters to bring along any spare food essentials to the Ashton game where a van will be parked outside Gigg Lane waiting to collect donations. Food essentials include dried goods like cereal, fruit, nuts and eggs, tinned food, packets and cartons - sugar, flour, pasta, rice, noodles etc - and also personal items like soap, deodorant, toiletries, mouthwash, shaving cream and soft drinks.

A full list of acceptable essential items can be views on the Mustard Tree website here.

Adrian Nottingham, chief executive of Mustard Tree said: "Last year we were really grateful for the support of FC United and its generous fans when a big Saturday collection gave a vitally needed boost to our food stores with six weeks worth of food added to our food store. We find that in hard times the solution to supporting those most in need comes from lots of ordinary people who generously share what they have. We hope that FC United fans can help out again this coming Monday by sharing what they have."

Supporters bringing food to the Ashton game on bank holiday Monday should look out for the Mustard Tree van which will be parked to the right entrance of the ground just before the membership stall.
