Ashton game sees further fundraising success

Once again our supporters have dug deep and the fundraising effort at the Ashton game was a joy to see.

A magnificent 1,280 tickets were sold by the Pound for the Ground sellers to the very healthy bank holiday crowd and the £200 prize-winning number was 1434, which was claimed at full time by FC member Duncan Reid from Sale. And before we handed him the cash he said, guess what? "Tip it back into the barrels and lets build a ground". Thank you that man!! The runner-up prize of a meal for two was 1108, and the third prize of a hamper of fudge delivered to your door was 905. That meant a very healthy £1,080 into the Development Fund.

Also from Monday we need to include the Juniors’ raffle for the BIG TED, the winning number for which was 126-130, so that was another £75 raised for the FC juniors funds.

There cannot be any loose change or foreign stuff down the backs of sofas or cars of any of our supporters, because its all been found in the FCUM barrels over the past few weeks. Saturday continued this theme. The barrels were boosted by the £200 donated from the Pound for the Ground winner; Tim came over from Spain and swapped all the Euros change for £200 at the usual top rate of exchange; Pete Burke bid £80 for the Swiss francs, again well over the odds; Rob rocked up with some bags of change and there were over 50 bags, large and small, brim-full of coins.

So, all that along with the usual generous donations and we arrived at a fantastic £1,145, all towards helping us build our new home in Moston. Add that to the Pound for the Ground proceeds and it means we raised more than £2,000 at the Ashton game. An outstanding effort by all concerned.

Finally, before we sign-off, a quick update on the details from the Grantham game held last week at Stalybridge. The winning Pound for the Ground number for £200 was 1051, meal for two winner was 891 and the basket of fudge went to ticket number 101. There were 570 tickets sold and unfortunately the barrels never made the journey across town to Stalybridge owing to a problem with transport. Nevertheless we managed to do a small bucket collection which amounted to £47.

All of these collections mean that we have beaten last year’s cumulative totals for the Pound for the Ground ticket sales and the barrel collections. The generosity and passion of FC United fans really is unrivalled and it shows once again that when we set our minds to something great things can happen. An absolutely tremendous effort from all who have contributed throughout the season. A heartfelt thanks go to you all. And massive thanks too must also go to our volunteers who sell the tickets and get the barrels in place week-in, week-out. We could not do what we do without them and they deserve the highest praise we can give.

Onwards and upwards!
