People United Day - Update

Preparations for the October 28th fixture designated as People United Day in conjunction with FARE and Kick it Out are progressing well.

Schools & Junior Football Clubs

Bury local authority has contacted all its schools about our celebration. We have written to 250 schools in the Greater Manchester area, so check that your school will be making a banner by contacting a teacher or the headteacher. We already have news of junior football clubs and schools planning to make and bring their banners for 2.30pm. We would particularly encourage local junior football clubs to get involved with the day by bringing a banner and their junior players along to the match One Walkden school teacher saw our invite and decided immediately to bring members of his local club’s football teams along.

Other Groups

The club is especially pleased to see that ethnic minority groups in Bury and Manchester are set to attend. A few organisations have volunteered to sponsor asylum seekers coming to the game. In the week leading up to the match, the Community Development team will be in Bury coaching a group of asylum seekers and refugees who are keen on football.

Trade unions, colleges and youth clubs are also coming along. We have been invited into Bury College on October 18th to tell their 11,000 students about the club and the day, and a martial arts school is urging its 200 members to leap across our terraces.

Banners

Is your group’s banner ready for the parade? For those who want to make or improve their banners, we are holding a Banner-Making workshop between 11am and 4pm on Friday October 27th at Bury FC Social Club on Gigg Lane.

Youth Competitions

The October 28th Glossop North End fixture will also be the second of our Youth Competitions fixtures. On this occasion, we will not only be looking out for budding Picassos, we will also be seeking to find the game’s future reporters. So teachers and youth leaders should make sure their young people are up for it.

Age Categories: Under 12s and 12s to 17s.

Win a shirt signed by the whole first team squad for the Best Portrait of a player or event and a signed shirt for the Best Match Report at the game.
