FC United aim for sixth consecutive victory as we travel to Ashton United

FC United aim for sixth consecutive victory as we travel to Ashton UnitedFC United are aiming for our sixth consecutive victory as we travel to Ashton United on Saturday but we know that a tough encounter awaits.

The Reds have lost just once in our last 16 matches and are now sitting in fifth place, one point ahead of our hosts. The Robins have proved to be very tricky opponents over the last six years and manager Karl Marginson is expecting more of the same tomorrow.

He said: "We go there in a good run of form and we want to continue that. The play-off semi-final defeat from last season is fresh in the memory, we don’t want to put that right as such but we want to continue what we’ve been doing."

The two sides have met 17 times since 2008 with United just shading the fixture with nine victories to Ashton’s seven, with the sides drawing just once. What will be a concern for the Reds is that we have regularly struggled to perform at Hurst Cross. In our six league matches there over the years, we have won just once, drawn once and have lost on four occasions.

Everyone at the club will be hoping to improve that record tomorrow but they know it will take another good performance. Ashton are also one of the form teams in the division having lost just twice in their last 10 matches.

FC United expect to have a fully fit squad - bar a series of long term injuries - with David Birch and Dean Stott both due to return after illness and will be hoping to continue our fantastic form of late.

Ashton United versus FC United of Manchester is this Saturday at Hurst Cross with a traditional and supporter friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. Get yourself to that football ground.
