Seven new players as Margy strengthens his squad

FC United Karl Marginson has boosted his squad by taking on seven new players for summer trials and plans to give them all a run out in the upcoming friendlies.

Although happy with his title winning squad, Margy admitted the triallists were too good not to at least take a look at with many of them having Football League and Conference National experience. He said: "I approached some of the players but some of them approached me because lots of people want to play for FC United.

"The pleasing thing is, they all have the right attitude, understand the situation with the club and want to be a part of it. I’ve told them that we won’t be able to offer them the wages they’ve been used to in the past but they’ve all said that doesn’t matter."

The new recruits, who have not yet signed for the club, are as follows:

- Steven Boothman, midfielder, has Football League experience with Wigan Athletic and has more recently been at Southport.

- Sean Cooke, former Telford and Fylde winger. A Manchester United supporter who has played against FC United before and now wants to play for the Red Army.

- Cameron Murray, midfielder, came through the youth ranks at Bradford City and has plied his trade at York City and Scarborough Athletic.

- Adam Thurston, is a former Manchester United trainee defender, who has played at Preston North End and Hyde.

- Greg Wilkinson, former Stockport, Altrincham and Stalybridge Celtic midfielder.

- Cory Williams, forward, who has previously played for Hereford United and Chester.

- Unknown. Margy has another new recruit up his sleeve but has vowed to keep him a secret for now. That, and he couldn’t remember his full name. All will be revealed in due course.

After Joe Fox was released earlier in the summer, Shelton Payne has become the only player from last season to not commit to FC United, instead opting to join Salford City. Margy said: "Shelton goes with our best wishes. He has decided to take an offer that he feels is better for him. He, just like all the players, made a significant contribution to winning the title. We’re grateful to him for that and wish him all the best."
