Chuks Akuneto

FC United coach and adult education tutor Chuks Akuneto has reluctantly taken the decision to look for work elsewhere after we lost the funding for our adult education courses. Chuks remains a member of the club and will still be attending matches. We hope to be in a position to offer work in future when funding allows.

’’I wish to express gratitude and indebtedness to the management and owners of our football club??? said Chuks. “When I look back on all the pleasures, excitement and worthiness I have been lucky enough to have experienced while serving this unique club I do count myself a very lucky man.’’

Chuks has been a member of our coaching staff for over eight years and has served as FC United First Team coach, Reserve team manager, U18s coach and head coach with our academy as well as coaching at The Manchester College. In that time he has won numerous trophies for FC United: North West Youth Alliance League, Lancashire League and cup double and The British Colleges Elite Cup and the Conference youth League with The Manchester College.

Chuks’ last contract with FC United covered work as both an adult education tutor on our community team and a coach on our academy programme. This contract expired in June 2015. The funding for the adult education courses ended in February and Chuks continued to work as an academy coach. FC United have offered Chuks a contract to continue his coaching work with the academy players but the loss of the additional hours on adult education courses has meant that Chuks has felt unable to continue on a part time basis as he explores opportunities for full time work elsewhere.

It is sad to lose someone who has been with the club for such a long time but FC United is not alone in facing funding challenges. The current fragile nature of funding streams is impacting on the work of a large number of third sector organisations and charitable groups.

FC United General Manager Andy Walsh said: “We would like to thank Chuks for all his hard work for the club and wish him well in his search for full time employment. We look forward to seeing him and his family at Broadhurst Park in the future.???
