FC fans to organise anti-transphobia events at forthcoming matches

FC United’s LGBTQ group has been awarded a grant by Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE - www.farenet.org) to run two anti-transphobia events at FC around their Football People Action weeks, which run from today. Transphobia is prejudice against transsexual or transgender people that according to a number of recent reports in the media is on the increase.

FC’s LGBTQ group will unfurl an anti-transphobia banner and distribute information at two games:

- the women’s home match against Beechfield United on 18 October
- the men’s home game against AFC Telford on 24 October

There are very few campaigns with a specific trans focus in football, so the hope is that this event will put FC at the forefront of campaigning for trans football supporters. There are more trans supporters at FC than many would expect, a number of whom have been involved in planning this event.

The LGBTQ group are asking supporters who would like to back the campaign to pose with a small banner which will say ’FC United against Transphobia’, which will be present at both matches. The photographs will be sent to FARE to use to publicise the campaign.

The group has been working with the club to ensure that they can deliver as good an event as possible. If you’d like to show your support, please contact fcumlgbtq@gmail.com or come and say hello at one of the games mentioned above.
