FC United target FA Trophy triumph as we tackle Telford

FC United target FA Trophy triumph as we tackle TelfordFC United are hoping for their first victory in a month as the Reds take on fellow fan-owned club AFC Telford United in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round on Friday night at Broadhurst Park.

The match has been moved due to neighbours Manchester City being at home on Saturday. As such, the Reds will be hoping to get the job done a day early so that they can enjoy the rest of the weekend.

FC United are in need of a victory, having not won a match for a month. The last time the Reds triumphed was against Glossop North End in the Manchester Premier Cup on 27th October and that required a penalty shootout.

Our last win from open play came three days before that - over Sporting Khalsa in the FA Cup - but perhaps most worryingly FC United haven’t won a game in open play at Broadhurst Park since 26th September. That victory came against Witton Albion in the FA Cup.

As such, Karl Marginson’s side will be looking to right a few wrongs on Friday night. Not least, the Reds will want to show Telford that they are good enough to compete with them having slipped to a lacklustre 3-1 home defeat to them just three weeks ago.

After scoring five goals in the last two games, albeit a draw and a defeat, confidence is on the up and the Reds will be looking to make progress in the competition that they reached the quarter-finals of last season. The Reds’ best-ever run in FA Trophy last season provided lots of thrills and prize money before narrowly losing 1-0 at Torquay in front of 1,300 travelling supporters on the English Riviera.

Margy said: "The match will inevitably bring back memories of our excellent run in the FA Trophy last season. We come into the match off the back of a good result in the league last Saturday and after scoring goals on Tuesday night, so our confidence is on the up and I hope that this means that we are on a bit of an upward trend.

"We need to keep that up against Telford. They have already demonstrated that they are a good, strong side who can score goals but we have to stick to our game plan and play the type of football we know we are capable of."

FC United v AFC Telford United in the FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round kicks off at 7.45pm this Friday evening. Get yourself to our football ground.
