Broadhurst Park wood in place thanks to amazing volunteers

Broadhurst Park wood in place thanks to amazing volunteersBroadhurst Park now has its own woodland thanks to the amazing efforts of a team FC United volunteers, led by the FC Diggers group, who braved torrential rain over the weekend to plant 24 trees supplied to the club thanks to funding from Grow Wild UK.

The trees, all native species - Hawthorn, Whitebeam, Crab Apple and Rowan - were planted behind the north stand by 17 intrepid volunteers who battled on through a constant downpour on Saturday and Sunday, 12-13 December 2015. The trees arrived on the Friday and on Saturday 24 holes were dug and the 24 trees were planted on the same day. Stakes and cross braces finished off the job on Sunday.

FC United board member Richard Searle who has been leading on the Grow Wild project for the club said: “It was a magnificent effort by everyone involved in terrible weather conditions. We’ve now got our own woodland which will make a significant difference to the area behind the north stand. That area is known as the Grass Roots project and it’s been designed by FC United member Kevin Randall. Early next year we will re-sow the wild flower beds behind the north stand and put in some benches and information boards.???

The funding for the tree planting came from Grow Wild UK which is lottery funded and run by Kew Gardens.

Pictures and video from the planting are shown below. Thanks to everyone who took part for their magnificent work in the bad weather.
