Lewis Lacy returns as FC United travel to Brackley Town

Lewis Lacy returns as FC United travel to Brackley Town FC United travel to Brackley Town on Saturday where they will hope to record their fourth win in seven matches and they have been buoyed by centre-back Lewis Lacy re-joining the club.

The Reds look like a team on the up with just one defeat in their last six as they continue to ease towards midtable security in their debut season in the Vanarama National League North.

Things were beginning to looking rather bleak as Karl Marginson’s side went through an unprecedented run of seven consecutive league defeats in the autumn and slid into the dreaded relegation zone.

However, several new signings have brought about a renewed sense of confidence at the club and the Reds now sit in 16th place in the table. Such is the closeness in standings, FC United are just six points away from being in the top eight.

One of those signings is George Thomson who has been FC United’s standout performer during his two month loan spell from Chester. Thomson has scored five goals in eight appearances from central midfield and he has become a firm fans’ favourite – winning the supporters’ man of the match vote on the official website in all eight matches he has played for the club.

Saturday is due to be Thomson’s last game for the club but Margy is working hard to strike a deal with Chester to keep him at FC United beyond 20th January. Watch this space for further developments.

In other squad news, Matthew Wolfenden is expected to be out for two weeks with a shoulder injury sustained at Tamworth last Saturday, Jerome Wright continues his recovery from broken arm with light training and Rory Fallon is awaiting a scan from the NHS on his injured knee.

Margy said: “We should know more about Rory in a week or so. Hopefully, it will be good news and not ligament damage, which could mean him being out for a long time.???

Onto Saturday’s opponents, Brackley are currently in 20th place and four points behind FC United. The two teams have met just once before – in August 2015 when the Reds won 3-2 at Broadhurst Park for their first ever win in Conference level football.

Northamptonshire side are searching for their first win in seven games. The Saints manager Kevin Wilkin told the club’s official website: “This weekend’s game with FC United has obviously taken on more significance now after our poor run. But we have to stop getting red cards, in recent weeks we’ve had too many and that has made it even more difficult for us.???

“I’m trying my hardest to keep this club in the league but going down to ten men in games is not helping. We’ve finished with ten men in too many games since I arrived, it’s gone on for far too long. I’ve got to try and get a tune out of these players, perhaps we may have to throw caution to the wind and go for it in games now.???

It’s pay on the gate. Get yourself to that football ground and cheer on your football club.
