FC UNITED 0-0 CHORLEY: Stalemate extends unbeaten home run

FC UNITED 0-0 CHORLEY: Stalemate extends unbeaten home runFC United extended their unbeaten home run to 12 games with a goalless draw against Chorley on Friday evening.

The two teams were very evenly matched over the course of the game and this made for a game that wasn’t high in excitement or chances. Interestingly it’s the third time in the last four meetings that the two teams have shared the points, with the only exception being a single goal victory for Chorley earlier this season.

The Magpies were on top in the first half, but neither team really created much in terms of clear cut chances with long range efforts being the only thing that called both ‘keepers into action.

Attacking the SMRE in the second half you always feel that the Reds can transform into the free-flowing attacking team that we’ve shown in previous months, but the spark never really came and despite a few shots on target there was nothing that left you thinking it could’ve been the game winner in different circumstances.

On top of the unbeaten run it was the third consecutive match at Broadhurst Park where we’ve managed to keep a clean sheet, something Lloyd Allinson and his defence will be proud of.

Although, it nearly came to an end when a back-pass to Allinson was misjudged by the FC shot stopper and the ball bobbled past him and towards the goal. A frantic Allinson made his way back and managed to stop the ball before it got to the line, but it was the closest we came to a goal over the course of 90 minutes.

Danny Wisdom was stretchered off in the second half, with what looked to be a serious injury as his leg buckled underneath him as he looked set to unleash a long-range effort at goal. Wisdom was down for several minutes before being carried off the field and hopefully he will make a speedy recovery.

Another point is in the books for the Reds and next up is the trip to Hyde in the Manchester Premier Cup semi-finals before we welcome Stockport County to Broadhurst Park next Saturday.

Website man of the match: Lloyd Allinson – not many standout performances in a difficult game, but Allinson was reliable when called upon and made up for his error immediately to keep his third home clean sheet in a row.
