FC United vs York City - MATCH OFF

**** BREAKING NEWS - FC United’s home match vs York City has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Our apologies for the late call off.

A new date will be announced for this fixture in due course. ****

FC were due to be back at home at this weekend to take on 12th placed York City on the back of the great away win last weekend, as we looked to use the momentum from that and perhaps go on a run which could be vital come the end of the season as we look to avoid being relegated.

What a difference three points could make. At the start of the last round of fixtures we were three points off Ashton United and six points off Guiseley coming up against an AFC Telford United side with play-off aspirations, but the boys pulled through as we recorded a marvellous 3-1 away from home which has increased our chances of survival. That game also saw our “Hoodoo” of not scoring between the 46th and 60th minute vanquish thanks to a goal from Kurt Willoughby sandwiched in between goals from debutant Dominic McHale and Tom Peers. That win now sees us within three points of Guiseley (who have a game in hand) whilst leapfrogging Ashton United in the process.

The Reds have been on a decent spell of form over the past four games having picked up six points from a possible twelve, having drawn three games and having won one. Before this little upturn in form, FC went on a dismal run of four straight defeats with our last victory before last weekend coming against Bradford PA away from home on the 15th of January. It’s no secret though that our home form needs to improve, having won only one home game this season and we have only picked up nine points from a possible 51, with six of points having been draws.

As for our opponents York City, they are comfortably sat in 12th place after 34 games having picked up 45 points so far this season. The Minstermen have an outside chance of the play-offs being nine points off the play-off places with eight games to go but for any chance of that to happen they would need results elsewhere as well to go in their favour. A win for the former Football League outfit could see them move up to 10th level with Boston United but again would require results go their way as well.

They come into this game on the back of some terrific form in the league, having picked up 12 points from a possible 15, winning four games and losing just the once. In their last game, was where the defeat came in a 1-0 loss against Altrincham away from home. As it pertains to their away form, The Minstermen have picked up 18 points from a possible 51 with their last away win coming against Leamington on the 2nd of March.

In the previous game between the two sides it resulted in a 2-0 defeat for the reds back in December.
