Fresh Reds ready for Congo

Manager Karl Marginson was happy to report that there are no fresh injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s crucial D-Zine Challenge Cup clash against Congleton in the semi final second leg at Gigg Lane.

Only cup-tied Jerome Wright is unavailable for selection as Rory Patterson’s suspension for being sent off against Formby last week has not yet come into effect.

Margy was delighted with the way his team came through Thursday night’s trip to Keighley, beating Silsden AFC 3-1, especially because, with one eye on the cup, a number of fringe players were give outings.

He said: "It was another good result. I gave a rest to a few players who I thought needed it, they didn’t even travel with us, so they’ll be nice and fresh for tomorrow."??

Patterson was one of the first team regulars who did play and Margy was quick to praise the young Irishman who scored his second brace of the week. He said: "Rory’s been magnificent, he just keeps getting better and better. He’s scored some breathtaking goals but his all round contribution has come on so much this season and he’s taking on a lot more responsibility with his talking on the pitch."??

And Margy gave an insight into why that’s the case: "Rory can be a bit of a pain sometimes because he wants to win so much. But I think people are beginning to understand him more now and he’s beginning to understand his team mates more. He’s settled into the club now and it’s really beginning to show."??

Margy knows he has a squad full of talented players, but he’s been pleased with how they’ve dug in to grind out results in a number of matches. He said: "After the Salford game (2-1 defeat in October), there were a few accusations that we weren’t up for games like that, but I think we’ve shown since, especially in the Quorn match for example, that we have got what it takes."??

With FC United possibly just 90 minutes away from their first ever cup final, Margy is in no doubt of what victory would mean: "Everything. It would be superb for the fans and the players. It’d be a great occasion. I keep telling the players that we are the best team in the league and they’ve just got to keep going out and showing it."??
